Chapter President Report

Welcome to Spring! I hope you all managed well through the April fools jokes and pollen! We're headed into some great golfing weather! Thank you to those of you who attended last month's meeting. Sounds like it was well attended. We have a great presentation lined up for this month. Check out the VP Technical section of the newsletter for more information.

Good luck to all of you who are taking the CPD test this month!

This is a reminder that CPD credentials are valid for 24 months and must be recertified prior to expiration. The upcoming recertification deadline is April 30th.

Recertification can be completed online through ASPE Education under My Dashboard → Certifications, or by visiting: education.aspe.org/CPDRecert.

With deadlines approaching, we encourage you to begin early to allow time for CEU verification and avoid any delays.

If you have already completed your recertification, we sincerely appreciate your diligence and continued commitment.

See below for a few ASPE education opportunities. If one of your manufacturers has an education opportunity that you would like to share with the members please send those to me. As a reminder, attending the monthly meetings gets you CEU's!

See below for some ASPE National education opportunities:

  • Virtual MedGas 101 - April 29th
  • Green Plumbing Design (GPD) Workshop (Chicago) - May 28 - 29 (You can also do this online at anytime)
  • MedGas Workshop (Chicago) June 11-14

ASPE National and the chapter have several events coming up and we've updated our calendar for your convivence. If you need any information about those events or want to get involved please reach out to me and I'll get you in touch with the right people. Chapter Legislative Report

The transition from the 2018 edition to the 2024 edition introduces several significant updates:
Fixture and Accessibility Standards:
Showerhead Flow Rates: Flow is now limited to 2.0 gallons per minute (GPM) to meet higher efficiency requirements.
Fixture Access: New rules measure travel distance to the nearest toilet room from the most remote point of any room along an unobstructed path.
Piping and Infrastructure:
Tracer Wire: Mandatory for buried plastic sewer piping to ensure easier location in the future.
Buried Piping Support: New provisions address the support of piping buried beneath buildings in areas with expansive soil conditions.
Vacuum Testing: An optional vacuum testing method has been added for drain-waste-vent (DWV) piping.
Joint Standards: Updated installation standards for solvent-cemented plastic piping joints.
Equipment and Safety:
Water Heater Pans: Plastic pans for gas-fired water heaters must now be tested according to ASTM E84 or UL 723 standards.
Chemical Waste: New specific standards have been established for chemical waste piping materials.
Leak Detection: Requirements for leak detection monitoring with alarms have been added where discharge from safety relief valves is not "readily visible".
As we reported last month, full addoption of the new codes remains on hold for the forseable future, however some architects are already using the new codes as they begin new projects. Be ready!
